Bathing of past civilisations
Champion the therapeutic, medical and relaxation benefits of bathing.
Bathing was an important activity for progressive civilisations, particularly for African, Greek and Roman societies. For Egyptians personal cleanliness was sacrosanct. Egyptian baths ensured people stayed clean, happy and spiritually fulfilled. The majority of Egyptians bathed daily and believed was necessary to satisfy the gods when they died.
The Romans too appreciated the benefits of bathing and the opportunity to socialise and build strong social communities. The Romans based some of their ideas on Greek bathing culture and took it the whole bathing concept to another level. Their bathhouses where like art galleries. Roman bathes could wander about, sampling each cold, hot, tepid or steam bath." Roman baths became a prime source of entertainment and enjoyment that evolved into a way of life.
Roman public baths had a pubic sanitation system with water piped in and piped out. Baths at home were generally only big enough to sit up in and they were filled with water from pottery buckets. Baths proliferated all over the Roman Empire for both military and civilian use. Many were quite ornate, with huge colonnades, decorative mosaics and pools with different temperature water.
